Despite no first team experience, Chelsea have clearly been encouraged by the complete midfielder’s performances at youth level. For Inter’s Primavera side, the Italian-born talent bagged 25 goals and seven assists in 66 games, as well as 11 goals in 22 games for the U-17 side. Similarly, at international level, Casadei has three goals in 12 caps for the Italy U-19 team and helped his nation to the semi-finals of the European Under-19 Championship in the summer.

“Cesare is a player we have tracked for some time and we are delighted that he has now agreed to join Chelsea, where he will initially strengthen our Under-21s squad,” said Chelsea Head of youth development Neil Bath. “He is another exciting emerging talent who we are looking forward to seeing develop and progress further as he breaks into senior football in the coming years.”

With an up-front transfer fee of €15m, Casadei becomes the seventh most expensive player under the age of 20 signed by Chelsea. Although some way off the €64m spent on Christian Pulisic or the €32m spent on Oscar, the young Italian talent joins the club for a fee identical to the one spent on Romelu Lukaku in 2011 when he joined the club from Anderlecht, while more than fees paid for world stars like Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne.
