Instead of Raphinha

Chelsea are interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry. On Monday, The Telegraph reported that the club coached by German manager Thomas Tuchel have expressed their interest in the 26-year-old right-winger. The interest in the winger comes as Chelsea are looking to offload Hakim Ziyech to the Italian side AC Milan. Raphinha was always the primary replacement, but the Leeds United winger prefers a move to Barcelona.

Gnabry, in the meantime, has been in prolonged contract negotiations with Bayern. The club hoped to reach an agreement with Gnabry ahead of the club’s start of the new season on Tuesday, and even though the parameters have been more or less hammered out, the forward has not put pen to paper to a new deal. In Sadio Mané and Kingsley Coman, Bayern have signed two forwards to long-term deals.

The Coman deal, in particular, is considered the blueprint for what Gnabry is expecting from the club; a long-term deal until 2027 with an annual salary of at least €17 million. There are good reasons for Gnabry’s demands; after all, he scored 14 goals and six assists in 34 Bundesliga games last season—Coman managed six goals and three assists in 21 games.

Gnabry to Chelsea? – Arsenal past and Bayern contract make move unlikely

Now just 24 hours before Bayern’s first deadline, The Telegraph has reported a potential Chelsea deal. A warning for the Rekordmeister? Bayern would like to renew and get the deal done before the US Tour that starts in one week. Sky Sports Germany, in the meantime, reported that Gnabry, due to his past at Arsenal, does not want to join the Blues. But at the same time, this rumor serves him well; it shows the Bayern bosses that there is a strong market for a high-scoring German national team player.
