The Los Angeles Galaxy have acquired left-back Chase Gasper from Minnesota United in exchange for $450,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) and an additional conditional $300,000 in GAM if certain performance metrics are achieved. The Loons granted a trade after consulting with Gasper after he spent a month in the league’s substance abuse treatment program. To facilitate the move the Galaxy will retain $220,000 of Gasper’s 2022 budget charge, while Minnesota will pay the remainder of his 2022 budget charge.

“We all feel a little bit of sadness really, because Chase Gasper is an established member of our club and a really popular guy and he’s been an incredible professional since he’s been here,” MNUFC head coach Adrian Heath said in a club statement. “Chase sees this as a new beginning and a great opportunity. While these decisions are never easy, we all want to first and foremost, support Chase the person – not just Chase the soccer player.” Added Gasper: “This club, it’s fans and this city will hold a special place in my heart, I am really looking forward to a new beginning and grateful for the club’s support in that.”

Although the Loons were supportive, Gasper’s departure leaves a significant hole in the squad. The $3.3 million valued player signed a new contract last September and was a fan favorite in Minnesota. Gasper leaves the Loons after having played 77 games for the club (two goals and two assists).
