Tajon Buchanan has been a revelation for the Canadian national team at the Gold Cup this summer. The 22-year-old winger, who can also play as a left-back has been fantastic replacing superstar Alphonso Davies for John Herdman’s side. The New England Revolution star has been linked with a transfer to Europe for some time and it appears that Bundesliga side FC Augsburg are now among the frontrunners.
Transfermarkt can confirm a report by TSN reporter Matthew Scianitti that the Fuggerstädter are among the clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old—although reports of a first bid might be a bit exaggerated. Other clubs that have shown interest are Jupiler Pro League side Club Brugge and Ligue 1 club RC Lens. Augsburg is within an hour’s drive from Munich where Buchanan’s Canada teammate Davies is playing.
According to a report by the reliable MLSSoccer.com writer Tom Bogert, New England Revolution are reluctant to sell the winger this summer. Instead, the club is looking for a deal that would see Buchanan finish the 2022 MLS season and then join his new club in January. New England will have options, other clubs from Germany are expected to swoop in for the winger as well. Other Bundesliga clubs looking for an attacking-minded left-back are Hoffenheim, 1.FC Köln and VfL Bochum.
