With seven matchdays complete in the Bundesliga and in the middle of the second international break, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 123 players. Two Americans, who are currently not with the US men’s national team, are among the biggest winners of the update: Borussia Dortmund‘s Giovanni Reyna and Borussia Mönchengladbach‘s Joe Scally.
At first glance, Reyna’s latest market value upgrade comes as a surprise. The attacking midfielder has played just three Bundesliga games (two goals) and has been out with an injury, keeping him from traveling to the national team. “When it comes to Reyna, we often forget that he is only 18,” Bundesliga market value admin Julius Weißenstein (Savarez03) said. “When fit, he has been a starting XI player under three different BVB coaches and convinces with his playing intelligence and direct play. Dortmund highly value the player, which is evident by the fact that he was given Jadon Sancho’s number 7 this summer.”
Joe Scally doubles market value – Now 4th most valuable US right-back
Also not part of the national team is Scally, despite fantastic performances in the Bundesliga. “Scally is one of the newcomers this season,” Weißenstein said. The right-back was signed from New York City FC in January 2021 and has since been slowly integrated into the first team. Injuries at the start of the season have meant that Adi Hütter had to give Scally a chance, and the young American has made the most of the opportunity. “He convinced right away,” Weißenstein said. “Scally underlined his performances with his first Bundesliga goal last weekend, and it is hard to imagine him not being part of the first team from now on.”
Although the performances might not have been enough to convince US men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter, Transfermarkt believes Scally is already one of the season’s biggest winners. The 18-year-old sees his market value double from €2 million to now €4 million, which together with Reggie Cannonranks him the fourth most valuable US right-back on the planet.
