Six players increased by €50m

He probably could not have made better use of the year 2022: Josko Gvardiol is not only one of the biggest winners of the most recent World Cup update, but also one of six players worldwide who have increased their market values by no less than €50 million since the beginning of the year. In the German Bundesliga, not even Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala (+€45m) and Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham (+€35m) can keep pace.

“They’re all in the spam folder,” RB Leipzig’s new sporting director Max Eberl recently said on speculation about offers for the World Cup hero. High bids for Gvardiol had already arrived last summer, way ahead of the global showdown in Qatar. However, the tournament saw the Chelsea target’s market value increase by a further €15m to now €75m.

Even before the World Cup, Gavi (Barcelona), Rafael Leão (Milan) and Antony (Man United), who recorded the largest increase in the latest Premier League update with €40m, were upgraded by this amount since the beginning of January as well. Aurélien Tchouameni (Real Madrid) and Enzo Fernández (Benfica), on the other hand, also used the winter World Cup to reach that market value increase for the year 2022. Fernández had started 2022 with a valuation of €5m, thus rising by 1,000%.

Premier League targets: Gakpo & Mudryk among market value winners

Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez (+€38m) recorded the biggest increase for a Premier League player behind Antony, without adding anything after the World Cup as well, while Arsenal’s England winger Bukayo Saka, Liverpool’s Luis Díaz and Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella follow closely behind with a plus of €35m each. Premier League targets Cody Gakpo (+€38m), who is on the verge of completing a transfer to Liverpool from PSV, and Mykhaylo Mudryk (+€36m), for whom Arsenal have reportedly submitted a first offer to Shakhtar, are in the top 20 as well.

The most significant in the World percentage-wise can also be found at Benfica. 19-year-old António Silva, who is linked with a move to Liverpool as well, reached his current market value of €15m even before his World Cup appearance with Portugal. From an initial value of €100,000, he went up by 14,900% in the course of 2022. The increases of Villarreal’s 21-year-old Nicolas Jackson (+4,900% to €15m) and CA Paranaense’s 17-year-old Vitor Roque (+3,567% to €11m), who featured in this year’s Transfermarkt Talent Calendar, are also notable.
