In match against USMNT
Major League Soccer side Toronto FC will be without Ayo Akinola for the next few months. The Canadian-based club announced on Tuesday that Akinola has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury after a tackle by James Sands in the match against the United States on Sunday.
Akinola is set to leave the Canadian men’s national team and return to his club were he will be evaluated by the medical staff. In a club statement, Toronto announced that Akinola will likely miss the remainder of the 2021 season. Losing Akinola will be a big blow for Canada. The 21-year-old is the third most valuable striker available to John Herdman and Canada are already without Jonathan David and there are question marks over Cyle Larin‘s fitness.
