€32m transfer plus for Real?
Martin Ødegaard is likely to leave Real Madrid permanently. According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old midfielder, who spent six months on loan at Arsenal last season, is close to joining the Gunners on a permanent deal. Real and Arsenal are said to be on the verge of reaching an agreement for Ødegaard.
Although the deal is apparently not yet fully completed, the Norwegian is said to have already skipped training with Los Blancos on Tuesday to get ready. According to the report, however, a little work is still needed to finally bring the transfer over the line. As a possible transfer fee, the portal mentions an amount of around €35 million, which is close to Ødegaard’s market value and with which he would just make it into the top 10 most expensive signings at Arsenal. It would also be a record fee for a Norwegian footballer.

The midfielder had been signed for €2.8 million from Strømsgodset IF in January 2015, initially for Real’s second team – now a significant transfer plus beckons. Ødegaard became Real’s youngest LaLiga player in history at 16 years, five months and six days.

In the years that followed, he was loaned out no less than four times for the prospect of match practice: to SC Heerenveen, Vitesse Arnhem, Real Sociedad and most recently Arsenal. For the Londoners, the 30-time international made 20 appearances (two goals and two assists) in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign – for Real he featured just 11 times.
