Squad value increases by €84m

Although each Transfermarkt market value update often focuses on the biggest and brightest stars in each league and how their own value has increased over the past few months, our reviews of each European league can also underline how well a club is doing too. And this week’s Premier League update did a fantastic job of showing just how well Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side are doing this season.

Premier League market value update

Indeed, after 10 wins, one draw and just one defeat from their opening 12 league games, the Gunners find themselves sitting top of the English top-flight and two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Manchester City side. This, to no surprise, is down to Arsenal’s key players putting in tremendous performances and as such we’ve seen some notable market value increases for Arteta’s stars.

For example, while Erling Haaland may steal the headlines by becoming the world’s most valuable player, it’s also worth noting that five of the top 10 biggest increases in market values in the Premier League were handed out to Arsenal players. Bukayo Saka saw his value increase by €20 million to €90m, while Gabriel Martinelli (up €20m to €60m), Gabriel Jesus (up €10m to €65m), Martin Ødegaard (up €10m to €60m) and William Saliba (up €10m to €40m) also enjoyed improved market values after impressive starts to the season.

In total, Arteta’s side improved by a remarkable €83.5m over his entire squad, which was the largest increase for any club in the English top-flight. And now suggests that the North London club have an overall squad market value that sits fifth in the Premier League, one spot above a notable local rival.

Tottenham falter as Arsenal hit new heights

Indeed, what will make Arsenal’s success all the more delightful is the fact that it comes in stark contrast to Tottenham Hotspur’s malaise in the league this season and how that has been reflected in the most recent Premier League update. As a number of Antonio Conte’s most dependable players have struggled to thrive in what has been a deeply concerning start to the season for Spurs.

For example, Heung-Min Son has managed just three goals and two assists in 13 league games this season and has seen his market value drop by €5m down to €70m. While defensive stars like Yves Bissouma and Davinson Sánchez have both seen their own market values decrease by €3m to €32m and €25m respectively to note the 16 goals Conte’s side have shipped in 13 games. As such, while Arsenal’s squad market value has increased by €83.5m and taken the club into fifth place in the Premier League, Tottenham’s has dropped by €7.5m to €677.8m in total. Which now places the club in sixth place in the English top flight, above Aston Villa and West Ham.
