Potential winter transfer
Vancouver Whitecaps are interested in signing highly-rated Paraguayan center-back Alexis Duarte. First reported by Tigo Sports in Paraguay, Transfermarkt can confirm Vancouver’s interest in the 21-year-old Cerro Porteño defender.
Sources in Paraguay have suggested to TM that the Whitecaps have already made an offer for a structured $4 million deal. The ‘Caps would have to pay $2 million in the first year and then an additional $2 million in the second year. Including bonuses, the transfer could grow to $7 million, which would be a record transfer fee for the Whitecaps.
Vancouver-based sources, however, have been more careful when describing negotiations. One well-placed source told Transfermarkt that the club is currently scouting the player. Duarte is seen as a winter signing as the organization does not feel that a young center-back could be integrated in time for the 2021 Major League Soccer season. Either way, Duarte is seen as a highly-touted prospect and is currently the most valuable center-back in the Paraguayan first division (more on this here).
