Mexican midfielder

Chelsea have seen a €50 million offer for Ajax star Edson Álvarez turned down. De Telegraaf was the first to report the news on Wednesday. Chelsea are the latest club to see an offer for the 24-year-old turned down as Stade Rennais and Newcastle United were interested earlier in the transfer window.

Álvarez is reportedly unhappy with Ajax’s decision as the Mexican does not believe that another opportunity like this will come around again. But with the transfer window closing in the Netherlands on Wednesday rather than on September 1 like it is the case in all major leagues, the Dutch record champions are reluctant to let any more players leave this summer.

The club has also reportedly refused Mohammed Kudus to leave for Everton earlier on Wednesday as Ajax have no time to bring in a replacement. Ajax have recently sold Antony for a club-record €95 million to Man United. The Eredivisie club also lost Lisandro Martínez and head coach Erik ten Hag to the Red Devils. Altogether Ajax have earned €216.22 million through transfers this summer, more than any other club on the planet.
