Predicted Lineups: Projected Starting XI for Manchester City against Chelsea

By

Manchester City continues its relentless pursuit of the historic treble as they gear up for their Premier League fixture against Chelsea on Sunday. Following their impressive 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League midweek, City is now just a win away from securing the Premier League title.

The Cityzens currently sit four points ahead of their nearest rivals, Arsenal, with just three fixtures remaining. Pep Guardiola’s side has been outstanding this season, boasting an impressive win streak across all competitions, which has included memorable victories against Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea.

However, the Blues will be a tough nut to crack as they seek revenge after their FA Cup semi-final defeat to City last month. Thomas Tuchel’s men are currently in fourth place but are just two points behind third-placed Leicester and five behind second-placed Manchester United. They will be looking to use their recent form and momentum to spoil City‘s party.

Ahead of Sunday’s match, Pep Guardiola is expected to make some key changes to his starting XI. Ederson is expected to start in goal after putting in a solid performance against PSG, with Kyle Walker and Ruben Dias likely to partner in the heart of the defence. John Stones could also make an appearance in midfield, alongside Rodri, to provide an added layer of cover.

In midfield, Kevin De Bruyne looks set to run the show with Ilkay Gundogan by his side. Riyad Mahrez is expected to replace Bernardo Silva on the right-wing, while Phil Foden, who has been in sensational form of late, could feature on the left-wing. Upfront, City’s record goalscorer, Erling Haaland, is expected to lead the line and could be hooked as soon as he has helped the team seal all three points.

City has already beaten Chelsea twice this season, first in the Premier League back in January, and then in the FA Cup semis last month. However, the Blues will pose a different kind of challenge this time around, and City will need to be at their best to secure all three points.

With so much at stake in the final stretch of the campaign, City cannot afford to rest on their laurels. Pep Guardiola will be looking for his team to continue their relentless drive towards the treble and consolidate their position at the top of the table with a win over Chelsea. A victory against the Blues on Sunday would be another step closer to a remarkable season and a triple crown of trophies.
