Most improved players 

The peculiar timing of the 2022 World Cup has meant that Europe’s biggest leagues have come to a halt a little ahead of schedule and will now take an extended break from domestic duties. And, as such, that has given Transfermarkt the unique opportunity to take a look at which players have improved the most in the first half of the Premier League season.

Naturally, the biggest hikes in market value over the course of the past two Premier League updates have come from new signings made in the summer, where some of England’s and Europe’s richest clubs splashed the cash for top talent. However, there have also been some players that have simply allowed their performances on the pitch to do the talking for them and as such have seen their market values go from strength to strength this season. 

The most obvious examples of big transfers setting new market values comes in the form of three of the top five biggest market values in the English top-flight this season. Antony (+€40 million), Marc Cucurella (+€27m) and Gabriel Jesus (+€25m) have all performed to varying degrees of success in the Premier League with their new sides this season, after moving for big transfer fees.

Alternatively, the top 10 is also made up of some players that have simply hit new heights with their form on the pitch. Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo (+€32m) continues to impress for the Seagulls and has subsequently been linked with big moves to a number of clubs. As such, he has seen his value shoot up from just €6m in June of this year to where it now stands at €38m. 

And while nobody expects Bukayo Saka (+€25m) or Phil Foden (+€20m) to move clubs anytime soon, they continue to improve at a rate that few in the English top flight can match. And are joined by a number of surprise packages in the league this season, such as William Saliba (+€20m), Gabriel Martinelli (+€20m) and Anthony Gordon (+€20m) as the exceptions to the rule which states that only big moves can drastically improve a player’s market value.
