The 33-year-old is believed to have suffered a broken jaw during a robbery at his home. “On Sunday night, some violent cowards broke into our home and threatened my family and my children, just to steal some stuff,” the former Arsenal striker wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. “They injured my jaw but I will recover in no time.” He added that his family remained physically unharmed.

Aubameyang is said to have long-agreed terms with Chelsea, who only have two natiral centre-forwards under contract in currently injured Armando Broja and out-of-favour Michy Batshuayi. At Stamford Bridge, Aubameyang would once again meet head coach Thomas Tuchel, under whom he scored 79 goals and 17 assists in 95 games for Borussia Dortmund.

Ahead of Aubameyang transfer: Chelsea biggest spenders in the world

Only in January, Aubameyang had left Arsenal on a free transfer for Barcelona, where he still has a contract running until 2025. After the Catalans’ signing of Robert Lewandowski, the Gabonese has lost his regular spot and only featured as a substitute on the first two match days. In the second half of last season, he had contributed eleven goals in 17 LaLiga games and helped Barça to improve their form.
