Complete Série A update
Transfermarkt.com.br has updated the market values of Brazil’s Série A, and there has been some significant movement among the top places. Gabriel “Gabigol” Barbosa is no longer the most valuable player in the league as he lost his spot to Danilo. New in the top 10—and that is with his starting value—is top talent Endrick.
The 16-year-old is considered one of the top talents in Brazil and stood out at this year’s Copinha, a tournament for U20 teams. The forward scored six goals in seven games, led Palmeiras to the title, and was voted the tournament’s best player. Endrick scored five goals in four games for the U17 national team.
On July 21, Endrick was promoted to Palmeiras’ first team and, as a result, received his first ever market value, €15 million. It is one of the highest entries in the history of Transfermarkt—since the introduction of market values in 2004, only four players had higher starting market values, among them Barça talents Ansu Fati and Gavi.
Endrick, Gavi & Co.: Players Who Got The Highest Starting Market Values
Within the Brazilian first division, Endrick, who has been linked as a 15-year-old to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona but, due to FIFA regulations, is not allowed to move to Europe until 2024, is right away listed among the top 10 most valuable players. “Endricks is a fast, strong, and dynamic forward with great ball control,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Marcos Watts said. “It isn’t surprising that some of the biggest clubs in the world are interested and that he has been compared to former Brazilian star striker Ronaldo. He has a special something, and his future is promising.”
In Endrick, Palmeiras have not only the most significant market value winner but also the biggest increase in squad value (+€18.85m to €175.7m), and Danilo is now the most valuable player in the league. The 21-year-old midfielder saw his market value increase from €22 million to €25 million and is now more valuable than Gabigol, who dropped from €26 million to €24 million.
“Gabigol had a poor start to the season and has scored just two goals in his first ten games for Flamengo and has been criticized,” Watts said. “Since then, the striker has experienced both ups and downs, and right now, he has scored 22 goals in 48 games. There is no doubt that he has the quality, but because he has no longer been nominated to the national team and is currently on the cusp when it comes to the World Cup squad, a downgrade was impossible to avoid.”
Market values Brazil: Young stars in the focus
The most significant increases other than Endrick have been for other top talents, of which there are many in Brazil’s Série A. Seventeen-year-old Vitor Roque from Paranaense saw his market value increase from €300,000 to €7 million, 19-year-old Marcos Leonardo from Santos jumped from €7 million to €12 million and 18-year-old Matheus França from Flamengo received a starting market value of €4 million.
Former European stars who have returned to Brazil to see out their careers have their market values decreased. Among them are Paulinho (-€2.5m to €2m), Renato Augusto (-€1.5m to €2.5m), David Luiz (-€1m to €1m), Diego (-€400,000 too €400,000) and Filipe Luís (-€300,000 to €500,000).
