UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0

Champions League winners Real Madrid have won their fifth UEFA Super Cup in history. On Wednesday, Los Blancos beat Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at a sold Olympiastadion in Helsinki. David Alaba (37′) and Karim Benzema (67′) were the scorers for Real Madrid. 

Although Eintracht Frankfurt were hugely improved from their 6-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, Real Madrid never truly looked in danger of losing the competition. The Bundesliga side had the biggest chance in the 24th minute when Daichi Kamada could not beat Thibaut Courtois one-v-one. Instead, Alaba opened the scoring on the other end in the 37th minute after a corner just moments after Kevin Trapp stopped a big chance by Vinicius Junior. 

Real Madrid then tried to control the game in the second half, giving Frankfurt very few opportunities to get back into the game. On the other end, Real were helped by Trapp. The German goalkeeper was unable to stop an undeflected shot by Benzema in the 67th minute. That goal ended the contest. Real were now happy to sit behind the ball, while Frankfurt were completely unable to break down a well-organized defense.
