4th signing from the Bundesliga
Nottingham Forest’s shopping spree in the German Bundesliga continues. As Sky Germany and The Athletic report, the newly-promoted Premier League side and VfB Stuttgart have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Orel Mangala. According to the report, Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat was successful with his demand, as Forest are said to have improved their offer for the defensive midfielder from the original €11 million to €15 million.
This amount would push Forest’s summer spending to around €97 million following their return to the English top tier after 23 years. Including the Mangala deal, €54 million of that will be transferred to the Bundesliga. Previously, head coach Steve Cooper’s squad was strengthened with the arrivals of Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin), Moussa Niakhaté (Mainz) and Omar Richards (Bayern Munich), among others. The most notable addition is Jesse Lingard, who arrived on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester United expired at the end of June.
Forest in top 5 soon? The highest spending promoted clubs in history
Stuttgart signed Mangala for €1.8 million from RSC Anderlecht in 2017 after Borussia Dortmund had let the option to buy their former loan player expire. Subsequently, the Belgian was playing on loan for Hamburger SV and made a total of 109 appearances for VfB, where his contract runs until 2024.
