Fenerbahce up by €10m
Transfermarkt.com.tr has completely updated the market values of the Turkish Süper Lig. With a market value plus of €10 million, Fenerbahce have seen the biggest increase in squad value to now €143.5 million. League internally, the Istanbul-based club remains first and is now €30 million ahead of champions Trabzonspor (+€1.4m). Fenerbahce have the top four most valuable players in their squad but also have some players that dropped in this latest market value update.
Top talent Arda Güler experienced the biggest increase. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder was able to collect significant playing time during the final stage of the season and was able to underline his talent with several goal involvements. Liverpool, Barcelona, and Dortmund are all interested. Güler saw his market value increase by €3.8 million to now €6 million and is now in the top 5 of the most valuable 17-year-old players on the planet.
Wanner, Güler & Co.: The most valuable U17 players
“Güler is an incredible talent,” Transfermarkt Turkey area manager Gökhan Yagmur said. “He is very advanced for his age, has incredible vision, and despite being just 17 plays like a veteran.” Other Fenerbahce stars with market value increases are Min-jae Kim (€14m) and Miguel Crespo (€8m) with a plus of €3 million each as well as Diego Rossi (€14.5m) and Bright Osayi-Samuel (€8m) with a market value increase of €2 million each.
Galatasaray’s Kerem Aktürkoglu sees his market value increase once again. Despite a weaker season by the Istanbul-based club, the 23-year-old was one of the few bright spots. “He has been lively as always,” Yagmur said. “H plays quick but also with great vision. Aktürkoglu is one of the league’s top stars and a mainstay for the national team. Dortmund aren’t interested without reason.” Aktürkoglu’s market value has increased by €1.5 million to now €16.5 million.
Aktürkoglu is now 2nd in the ranking – Özil drops and Balotelli increases
Aktürkoglu is now the second most valuable player in the Süper Lig market value, ranking just ahead of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who improved from €15.5 million to €16 million. Still at the very top is Ugurcan Cakir from Trabzonspor, with a market value of €18 million. The Turkish champions, who dropped a few points at the season’s final stage, saw minimal changes. Talented defender Ahmetcan Kaplan (+€1.4m to €2.8m), national team player Dorukhan Toköz (+€1.5m to €7m) and Abdülkadir Ömür (+€1m to €10.5m) are among the biggest winners at Trabzonspor. The only player with a significant drop is Berat Özdemir (-€0.8m to €4.7m).
After the update: The 20 most valuable Süper Lig players
The biggest losers of the update are all at Fenerbahce. Loan returnee Ozan Tufan again sees his market value drop from €6.5 million to €3.8 million. Tufan, like former Germany star Mesut Özil, has been suspended after differences with the head coach. “Since returning from Watford, Tufan hasn’t been able to show any of his skills,” Yagmur said. “That was less than acceptable, and his training sessions have been less than convincing as well.”
Fenerbahce want to sell Tufan and Özil in the summer. Özil, however, has told media that he wants to end his career at his favorite club. “Özil was never fully integrated at Fenerbahce,” Yagmur said. “There was only a short period in which he convinced, but that was just a fleeting moment.” The 2014 World Cup winner saw his market value drop from €3 million to €1.8 million, the lowest since mid-2007 when he was still a talent at Schalke.
Özil’s teammate Mergim Berisha also dropped in market value. “At the start, he was very convincing, but his performances dropped as the season went on,” Yagmur said. The U21 European Championship winner spent most of the second half on the bench. Berisha’s market value dropped from €7.5 million to €6 million.
One player with a rise in his market value is former Italian superstar Mario Balotelli. The 31-year-old has scored 18 goals for promoted Adana Demirspor, and only Umut Bozok from Kasimpasa (+€1m to €5m) was more successful in the Süper Lig. Balotelli’s market value increased from €2.3 million to €2.8 million.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
