Intermediary update Serie A
Transfermarkt.it has updated Italy’s Serie A. In the intermediary update, 132 players have seen their market value change. For the first since Romelu Lukaku has left the league, there has been a change in the player ranking. Winter top transfer Dusan Vlahović—the player with the most significant market value increase in the world in 2021—has seen his market value rise by another €15 million to now €85 million. As a result, the Juventus striker surpasses Inter forward Lautaro Martínez. The Argentine forward sees his market value drop for the first time since his COVID-19 downgrade in April 2020—this time, he dropped by €5 million to €75 million.
“Vlahović’s fee was €81.6 million, even more than originally thought—furthermore; he has carried over his great Fiorentina form to Juventus and scored right away in the Champions League,” Transfermarkt.it Area Manager Jatin Dietl (Jeidl) said. “If he continues his form, we might have to discuss a three-digit market value by the end of the season. Lautaro, on the other hand, has been out of form just at the worst possible time. Eight games without a goal and four games without a win—Inter, as a result, have lost first-place in the standings.
Juventus have increased their lead over Inter in the squad value ranking—even though both clubs saw their overall squad value decrease. The Bianconeri saw out of form players Alex Sandro (-€2m to €9m), Arthur (-€5m to €20m), Adrien Rabiot (-€4m to €18m) and Moise Kean (-€4m to €28m) drop in market value. Álvaro Morata has been better since Vlahović has arrived. Still, it is unlikely that Juventus will trigger his €35 million option this summer, and, as a result, his market value has dropped by €5 million to now €30 million. Paulo Dybala, in the meantime, had the biggest market value drop at the club. The Argentine saw his market value drop by €10 million to €40 million, his lowest market value since the summer of 2016.
Most valuable players of the Serie A
“Every once in a while, Dybala highlights his talent, but he struggles to fill the leadership role in the attack on a consistent basis—also, he is often injured,” Dietl said. “This has been an issue all season. Then there is the never-ending story about his contract renewal. A planned meeting between his agent and the club has been moved once again. It wouldn’t be a major surprise if Juventus allows the Argentine to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season as his output isn’t satisfactory.”
Serie A market values: AC Milan increase thanks to Leão – Rebić drops
One of the few clubs with a positive tendency in terms of squad value is AC Milan. The league leaders have decreased the gap to SSC Napoli, who have seen their market value slightly drop after being eliminated by Barcelona in the Europa League. The main reason for the positive market value development at the Rossoneri are Rafael Leão (+€15m to €50m), Sandro Tonali (+€5m to €40m), and talented defender Pierre Kalulu (+€7m to €17m). “Leão has become the symbol for Milan’s ambition to win the Scudetto,” Dietl said. “He has made the next step in his development, is more consistent than the last few years, and takes on a leadership role in Stefano Piolis’ attack whenever Zlatan Ibrahimović isn’t available. Whether he can fulfill all his potential is now up to him.”
Ante Rebić once again sees his market value decrease—this time by €5 million to €22 million, the lowest since June 2018. The Croatian forward has lost his place in the first team due to injury and has mostly come off the bench in the last few weeks. Furthermore, Rebić has managed just two goals and two assists in Italy’s first division. Another player with a big minus is Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne, who will join Major League Soccer club Toronto FC in the summer. The 30-year-old European Championship winner drops from €35 million to €25 million, which would still make him the most valuable player in MLS.
Sassuolo talents Gianluca Scamacca (+€10m to €30m), Giacomo Raspadori (+€8m to €28m), Davide Frattesi (+€5m to €20m) and Hamed Junior Traorè (+€2m to €20m) saw their market values increase significantly. The Neroverdi have finally found their form under head coach Alessio Dionisi, who joined the club last summer and have won the last three games, including against Inter and Fiorentina. All four are linked with transfers to top clubs. That is also the case for Torino defender Bremer. The Brazilian is one of the best defenders in Italy and his market value increased by €10 million to €30 million.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
