Arrives from Porto

The deal is now done. Liverpool have signed Luis Díaz from Porto. The 25-year-old winger has signed a long-term deal that according to various reports from England is supposed to run until 2027. With a base fee of €45 million, which with added bonuses could rise by another €15 million, the Reds have made the Colombian the second most expensive signing in club history.

For Porto, the transfer is the second-highest outgoing deal in history. Only Éder Militão’s fee of €50 million in 2019/20 was higher. Diaz’s former club Junior FC also benefit from the deal. Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra reported that the club, which initially received €7.2 million from Porto in 2019 will now receive an additional €9 million.

Díaz becomes the third most expensive and most valuable transfer of the winter

Díaz, whose contract in Portugal was going to run until 2024 becomes the third most expensive transfer and most valuable transfer this winter. The winger played 125 games for Porto scoring 41 goals and 19 assists.

Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in Díaz. The Telegraph reported that Spurs made an offer of €45 million, plus €10 million in bonuses. But once Liverpool entered negotiations Tottenham were out.
