Previously on loan
Major League Soccer side Atlanta United have signed defender Ronald Hernández on a permanent transfer. The Venezuelan center-back spent the 2021 season on loan from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen FC. The 24-year-old has signed a contract through the 2024 season.
“We’ve recouped the vast majority of our investment in the player with the potential for future returns through a sizeable sell-on,” Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack said in a club statement. Transfermarkt understands that Aberdeen will receive $800,000, which will cover 80% of the fee paid for Hernández to Stabæk in January 2020. Negotiations should have been straightforward, Atlanta United own a stake in Aberdeen, and the president of the MLS club Darren Eales is also a member of the Premiership club’s board of directors.
“Ronald is a talented and versatile defender who we’re pleased to add permanently to our roster,” Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement. “After coming in last season on loan, he was able to re-integrate himself into the Venezuela National Team after playing valuable minutes for our club. We look forward to Ronald continuing to add competition for playing time in our team.”
