Update after end of Clausura

Transfermarkt has completely revised the market values in Paraguay’s Primera División after the end of the Clausura 2021. Unchallenged in first place in the market value ranking remains 17-year-old top talent Julio Enciso of Club Libertad. The forward, who competed in the Copa América this summer, confirmed his market value of €5.5 million after his first full season as a regular for the Apertura winners, making Enciso one of the ten most valuable players in his age group.

The Paraguay international is now followed by teammate and top scorer Sebastián Ferreira. The 23-year-old has bounced back after a slight downward trend in the first half of 2021, earning an increase of €0.1 million to €3.8 million. Therefore, he surpasses another Libertad player who was considered the country’s greatest talent before Enciso’s emergence, Iván Franco.

The 21-year-old left winger has repeatedly struggled with injury problems after making the headlines in 2019. In the Clausura, he lost his regular place in the team of Daniel Garnero and mostly acted as a substitute, which was also due to the good performances of veteran Lorenzo Melgarejo, who was slightly upgraded to €2 million. Franco’s market value was downgraded for the fifth time in a row, this time from €4.3 million to €3.5 million.

Meanwhile, among the winners are players from Club Cerro Porteño (won the title) and Club Guaraní, who were in the race to win the title until the end. The champions’ keeper, Jean, who moves permanently to Paraguay in January – a year before his contract with São Paulo FC expires – is up by €0.7 million to €1.8 million, the highest value of his career to date. Left-back Leonardo Rivas, who has earned himself a permanent place in the league, jumps by €0.55 million to €0.8 million.

The main winner for Guaraní is midfielder José Florentín, who contributed eight goals and four assists to the successful Clausura campaign. After his debut for the national team in September, the 25-year-old rises by €0.5 million to €1.7 million. Defensive talent Roberto Fernández is also gaining value and makes a significant step forward – by €0.3 million to €1.3 million.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
