Transfermarkt has given 31 European Championship participants a market value boost after EURO 2020 – including ten Premier League players. The biggest upgrades are secured by Spain’s top talent Pedri (Barça), England midfielder Kalvin Phillips (Leeds) and European champion Federico Chiesa (Juventus), for whom it goes up by €10 million each.

“Players who have significantly improved their status during the tournament and/or played their way into the international spotlight, which ultimately leads to increased interest on the transfer market, were taken into account,” market value coordinator Christian Schwarz explains the update.
Chiesa most valuable Italian – Nagelsmann: “Has a very, very big price tag”
In an interview with Bild, Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann said about Chiesa: “He just does things, wants to make something happen. He is very fast, his finishing is very good. But he also has a very, very big price tag.” For the loan player of Juventus, there is an upgrade of €10 million to now €70 million – making him the most valuable Italian footballer. Once the obligation to buy Chiesa takes effect, Juve will pay a total of €50 million to youth club Fiorentina plus up to €10 million in bonuses.
Euro 2020 update – All market value winners
England boasted the best defence at EURO 2020 with defender Harry Maguire (Man United), whose form curve is showing a strong upward trend again in 2021, and Phillips, who impressed in defensive midfield for the Three Lions alongside Declan Rice (West Ham), having played key roles.
Daniel Busch, area manager England, says: “Despite an injury at the start of the tournament, Maguire was able to crown his strong season at Man United with a very good European Championship, in which he not only shone as a defensive leader and in the build-up, but also was dangerous from set-pieces.” For Maguire (new market value: €50 million) and Rice (€70 million) there is a plus of €5 million each, while the former’s teammate, Luke Shaw, rises by €7 million to €42 million.

“In the build-up, Philipps also played a key role. Together with Rice, he provided balance in midfield and now demonstrated his enormous running strength and dominance at a higher level,” Busch said of the Leeds player, who now holds the highest market value in the club’s squad at €40 million. The fifth and final upgrade for an English player is received by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, whose strong tournament results in a plus of €3 million to €25 million.
Pedri confirms outstanding season at EURO – Value increased by €73m
Pedri is not yet his club’s most valuable player – but if you look at his meteoric rise over the past twelve months, it should only be a matter of time before he overtakes Frenkie de Jong (€90 million) in the FC Barcelona squad in terms of market value. The central midfielder was a key player for the Spaniards and ensured that Thiago (Liverpool), for example, was only left with the role of a substitute.

In his first season in the Barça squad, he played 52 games for the Catalans, made his international debut in March and increased his market value from €7 million to €80 million. Pedri is 18 years old and by far the most valuable teenager in the football world.
Euro 2020: Five foreign Premier League players among winners
Chelsea’s Jorginho (+5 to €45 million) and Emerson (+2 to €14 million), who lifted the trophy with Italy, are two of five foreign Premier League players receiving an upgrade. In addition, Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (+5 to €40 million), Oleksandr Zinchenko (+3 to €28 million) of Man City and Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann (+1.2 to €2 million) also improve their market values after playing themselves into the spotlight at the tournament.
