Everton fans couldn’t help but taunt Anthony Gordon, chanting ‘Gordon, what’s the score?’ during their 3-0 win over Newcastle.
The Toffees went into the clash knowing that a victory would take them out of the Premier League’s relegation zone just three weeks after being handed a ten-point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules.
Gordon’s return to Everton did not go the way that he’d have hopedAFP
However, it was the return of Gordon that really got pulses racing on Merseyside.
Gordon, who graduated from Everton‘s youth academy, made 78 appearances for the club before leaving for Newcastle United in January this year.
While a fee rising to £45million was good value for the Toffees, Gordon’s decision to force through a move left a bitter taste in the mouths of the fans who used to sing his name, meaning that his return to Goodison Park was always going to be hostile.
The 22-year-old has already scored six times for Newcastle this term but couldn’t add to his tally against Everton as he failed to convert a number of half-chances during the contest, much to the enjoyment of the home fans.
That feeling was added to even more as Dyche’s side went on to earn a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto.
As the final minutes of the match ticked by, Everton’s fans could be heard chanting: “Gordon, what’s the score?”
While Gordon is enjoying the best season of his fledgling career so far with the Magpies, Everton’s fans will at least get some comfort from silencing their former Man.
What a night for Everton thoughGetty
