“Brighton’s Transfer Challenge: Staying Strong after Mac Allister and Caicedo – Who Will Step Up?”

By

Brighton & Hove Albion, one of the most impressive teams in the Premier League last season, are set to lose two key midfielders: Alexis Mac Allister and Moisés Caicedo. Mac Allister joined Liverpool for €42 million, while Caicedo is expected to move to Chelsea for €133 million. With the departure of these two players, Brighton will need to find suitable replacements.

The club does have some young talents in their squad who could potentially step up, such as Kacper Kozlowski, Steven Alzate, and Yasin Ayari. Kozlowski, signed from Pogon Szczecin for €11 million, has shown promise as an attacking midfielder and could be a suitable replacement for Mac Allister. Alzate, a Colombian talent, has shown potential as a holding midfielder and could fill Caicedo’s role. However, both players have had mixed results on loan and would need to make significant improvements to start in the Premier League.

Other candidates for the midfield positions include Jakub Moder and Billy Gilmour. Moder, signed for €11 million from Lech Poznan, impressed before a serious injury sidelined him. Fans are eager to see him back in an attacking role next season. Gilmour, on loan from Chelsea, has shown technical skill and a knack for breaking down opposing moves, making him a potential replacement for Caicedo.

While Brighton has some internal options, they have also turned to the transfer market to strengthen their midfield. James Milner joined the club from Liverpool on a free transfer and will provide cover when needed. Mahmoud Dahoud, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, has also joined the club and is expected to start.

In addition to these signings, Brighton is reportedly interested in Lille midfielder Carlos Baleba as a potential replacement for Caicedo. The 19-year-old could be available for as little as €16 million. However, it remains to be seen if a deal can be reached before the transfer window closes.

Overall, Brighton will need to find suitable replacements for Mac Allister and Caicedo, who were instrumental in their success last season. While they have some internal options, they are also looking to the transfer market to strengthen their midfield. Time will tell if they can find the right players to fill the void left by their departing stars.
