The Premier League, known to be the richest and most valuable league in the World, has added another €100 million in market value, with 171 players seeing their market values updated. The cumulative squad values of the 20 Premier League clubs now amount to around €10.4 billion, with Arsenal, Brighton, and Manchester United being the biggest winners. On the other hand, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea have seen the biggest losses.
Despite massive upgrades for winter transfers such as Enzo Fernández and Mykhaylo Mudryk, Chelsea received a net minus in their overall squad value as several players, including Kai Havertz, were downgraded. Chelsea made Fernández the most expensive signing in Premier League history after signing him for €121m in January. Despite the transfer fee, the World Cup winner only saw his market value increased from €55m to just €85m due to Benfica’s negotiating skills and the exit clause present in the deal.
The most valuable players in the Premier League, following the March 2023 update, include Erling Haaland (Man City), Phil Foden (Man City), and Bukayo Saka (Arsenal). Saka, who rose in value by €10 million, is now the most valuable English footballer along with Foden. Additionally, Martin Ødegaard has had the season of his life at Arsenal, and his market value increased from €60m to €80m. This increase in individual player value has contributed to Arsenal’s overall squad value increase by €87m to a total of €890m, surpassing not only Real Madrid (€851m) but also Liverpool (€879m) and PSG (€889m) in the international squad value ranking.
Liverpool and Chelsea are among the clubs that have seen the biggest losses during the update, with eleven players from each squad being downgraded. Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Fabinho are among the players that received significant downgrades, while Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Havertz were also among the club’s downgraded players.
