At least one year
Just a few days after Lionel Messi fulfilled his biggest dream and won the World Cup, the future of the seven-time World footballer of the year now seems to be clear. Le Parisien and Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday that the 35-year-old will renew his expiring contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
The PSG bosses Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Luís Campos and Messi’s father Jorge agreed on a new deal during the World Cup. Messi is now expected to stay one more year with the French champions.
At the moment, Messi, with a market value of €50m, is the third most valuable player with an expiring contract next summer. As of Jan. 1, 2023, Messi would be free to negotiate with other clubs, and he has been heavily linked with a transfer to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami CF and Barcelona. But according to Le Parisien, Messi feels comfortable in Paris and wants to win a big title before the end of his career.

Messi has arrived at PSG: Only two players have more scorer points in 2022/23
After a disappointing first season at PSG, Messi now appears to have arrived in Ligue 1, forming a dangerous attack with Kylian Mbappé—the duel between the two at the World Cup final was legendary—and Brazilian forward Neymar. After 15 games played, PSG are five points clear at the top of the table with 43 goals scored and just nine goals conceded. PSG finished second in the group stage of the Champions League behind Benfica and will now face Bayern Munich in the round of 16. Messi has scored 12 goals and 14 assists. Only Neymar (27 scorer points) and Cody Gakpo (30 scorer points) from PSV Eindhoven have been involved in more goals in any of Europe’s top 15 leagues (to the top scorers).
