Speculation continues to surround the future of RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, with a new report from Germany suggesting that the French international is already someway down the road towards agreeing a move to a Premier League club. The Athletic reported on Oct. 3, that a deal between Chelsea and Leipzig is already in place. The forward is currently valued at €80 million and recently signed a contract extension with the Bundesliga side that is set to run until 2026.
However, according to German newspaper BILD, the player’s new contract extension may not matter all that much, as moves are already in place that would see the player depart Leipzig next summer. The publication claims that Nkunku underwent a medical with Chelsea back in August, with the intention of making a move to the London club next summer. The newspaper also claims that despite signing a new deal with Leipzig this year, Nkunku would be allowed to leave next summer for around €60m.
Most valuable players in the Bundesliga
A report by The Athletic goes even further, suggesting that Chelsea and Leipzig have a deal in place that sees the London-based club pay in excess of the €60m exit clause to ensures that the Premier League club will beat out the competition. The player has been heavily linked with moves to Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich in recent months and there’s a lot of time between now and the end of the season. However, it seems as though RB Leipzig have already begun their contingency plans for selling Nkunku in the near future.
RB Leipzig already planning for Nkunku sale
Indeed, the Bundesliga side made some notable signings in the summer window that suggested that they were beginning to plan for life with Nkunku next season. Not only did they sign Timo Werner from Chelsea, a player that plays an almost identical position to Nkunku on the left wing, but they were also impressively quick in snapping up Red Bull Salzburg attacking talent Benjamin Sesko for €24m too, who will join the club next season. Whether Nkunku does leave or not, it seems as though RB Leipzig will have plenty of attacking talent to pick from.
