After Graham Potter departure: Adam Lallana could become interim player coach at Brighton

Graham Potter has joined Chelsea for €17.4 million to replace former manager Thomas Tuchel. The 47-year-old leaves a major hole at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he has been in charge since 2019. That hole is supposed to be filled—at least temporarily—by a player. The Telegraph reported on Thursday that Adam Lallana, together with current U21 manager Andrew Crofts will take over the preparations for the scheduled match against Bournemouth (the match could be postponed after the death of Queen Elizabeth II).

The 34-year-old joined the club on a free transfer from Liverpool in the summer of 2020 and is currently out with a calf injury and would miss the game anyhow. Lallana has played 253 games in the Premier League—among Brighton players; only Danny Welbeck has more experience in England’s top division (to the statistic).

Brigthon are understood to take their time with the appointment of a new manager. The match this weekend is currently in doubt due to the monarch’s death. Then the game on matchday 8 against Crystal Palace is postponed because of the rail strike, and then there will be an international break. After the scheduled match against Bournemouth, Brighton wants to appoint a new manager in time for the game against Liverpool on October 1.
