Last played for Stuttgart
Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City have signed Erik Thommy. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder will become a free agent on July 1 when his contract at Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart expires. Thommy will be added to the MLS roster on July 7 when the secondary window opens and sign a contract through 2024 with an option for 2025.
“This is a big step for me in my career,” Thommy said in a club statement. “I have had very good conversations with Peter Vermes and I am excited to join MLS, a league that has developed a lot in the last few years. This club has great fans, great facilities and a great stadium. I want to give my best for the team and I am ready for the challenge.”
Thommy originally joined Stuttgart from FC Augsburg in 2018 and managed three goals and ten assists in 54 games for the Swabians. His best season, however, was out on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Thommy scored six goals and six assists for Fortuna in 2019/20 but returned to Stuttgart after just one season.
