Man Utd news: Kalajdzic has options ahead of next season

Stuttgart striker on move

While the transfer window in Germany’s top flight may currently be dominated by the transfer and rumoured departure of Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski respectively, one other striker that continues to bob in and out of relevance is Stuttgart talisman Sasa Kalajdzic. Who, like the aforementioned pair, seems more than prepared for a busy summer window.

After a late start in football in Austrian football, Kalajdzic made an unassuming move to German football in 2019, when Stuttgart paid Admira Wacker €1.75 million for the striker, who has had to overcome some serious injuries since then but when fit and ready to play has also made great strides as an impressive striker too. Indeed, since making the move to the Swabian giants, the towering striker has bagged 24 goals in 57 appearances and, crucially, 22 goals and eight assists in just 48 Bundesliga games.  As such, in a market that undoubtedly values the importance of No.9s at this moment in time, Kalajdzic has found himself to be a wanted man by much bigger clubs than Stuttgart. And the fact that his contract is expiring next summer only makes the Austria international all the more appealing to a number of potential suitors not only in Germany, but further afield across Europe’s top divisions.

Bayern, Dortmund or the Premier League – Kalajdzic has options

As Transfermarkt understands, the young striker is currently being pursued by no less than five clubs at his moment in time, but any potential deal could hinge on a number of factors outside Kalajdzic’s control in the coming months. For example, while Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund officials have both held advanced talks with the player’s agent, the former are unlikely to move for the striker unless they are forced to sell Lewandowski and the latter are now reportedly far closer to signing Ajax forward Sebastien Haller.

However, there are still other options on the table for the 24-year-old striker. Alongside the Bundesliga pair, there is also notable interest from the Premier League, where Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leicester City have all shown an apparent interest in the Stuttgart star. But, again, a move by any of these clubs may depend on other players leaving. Spurs are unlikely to move for Kalajdzic unless Harry Kane departs, Man Utd would likely need to sell Cristiano Ronaldo and Leicester currently have at least three strikers on their books that would be challenging the Bundesliga talent for game time if he were to make the move. But there’s still plenty of time for things to happen in the summer window.
