Returns to club
Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids have signed Sam Nicholson. The Scottish winger will arrive as a free agent after his contract with League Two side Bristol Rovers expires on July 1. Nicholson has signed a two-and-a-half deal with the Rapids for whom he played between 2018 and 2020.
“We’re delighted to welcome Sam back to the club,” Colorado Rapids general manager Pádraig Smith said in a club statement. “Sam is an incredibly talented and versatile attacker with exceptional pace and someone our team and coaching staff are very familiar with from his time with the club. We’re excited to welcome him back at this key juncture in the season and look forward to seeing him continue his career in Burgundy.”
Nicholson managed six goals and five assists in 40 games across all competitions for Bristol Rovers last season. The 27-year-old joined the English club from Colorado in 2020. A flexible midfielder, who predominantly plays on the left, Nicholson has featured in 50 games for the Rapids scoring four goals and four assists for the MLS club.
