Blues exodus?
Chelsea have confirmed that central defender Andreas Christensen will leave the club this summer, when his contract comes to an end. Having joined the club in 2012 as a young talent from Brondby, the Denmark international’s decision to move on will draw a line under a 10-year spell at the Stamford Bridge side. In a statement on the club website, the Premier League giants confirmed that Christensen would not be accepting a new contract offer and would depart, having picked up no less than four trophies with Chelsea, most notable of which being the Champions League triumph in 2021. Antonio Rüdiger, who proved to be a key defensive partner for Christensen in that campaign, has also left the club to join Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old defender’s future at Chelsea had been under question for at least a year now, following constant speculation surrounding the club’s reported efforts to upgrade their options in defence. Sevilla star Joules Koundé has been regularly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and as such, Christensen was seemingly never sure of his standing in Thomas Tuchel’s side. The player is now expected to be announced as a Barcelona signing in the coming weeks.
Rüdiger, Christensen and other depart – Chelsea face summer exodus
As part of a worrying trend for Chelsea fans, Christensen is just the latest star to depart the club following the end of the season. As previously mentioned, Rüdiger also left at the end of his contract to join Madrid, but the club have also bid farewell to Danny Drinkwater, Charly Musonda and Jake Clarke-Salter. However, those free agents may not be the last of Chelsea’s departures this summer. Transfer flop Romelu Lukaku is widely expected to push through a move to Inter Milan, if the Italian side can afford to re-sign him and midfielder Jorginho continues to be heavily linked with a move to Juventus. N’Golo Kanté, whose contract expires next summer, is also being heavily linked with a departure from the club as well.
