Joins former teammate Aaronson
After already losing Brenden Aaronson and Karim Adeyemi, Red Bull Salzburg are set to lose another star. The Telegraph reported on Thursday that there has been an agreement in principle between Rasmus Kristensen and Leeds United. The transfer of the 24-year-old Dane is in the final stretch.
Kristensen has, therefore, opted for a move to England rather than the Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were two clubs heavily interested as were English side Brentford. Instead, the right-back will once again work with his former Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch for whom he played 64 games (four goals and 11 assists) between 2019 and 2021.
The Telegraph has reported a fee of £10 million (€11.7m). Salzburg’s earnings this summer would, therefore, grow to €75 million, the same amount that Dortmund have earned in this window.
RB Salzburg dominates: The most valuable players of the Austrian Bundesliga
Kristensen joined Salzburg from Ajax in 2019 for €5 million and has since increased his market value from €2.5 million to €15 million and is one of the ten most valuable players in the Austrian Bundesliga. His current contract runs until 2025.
