Hlozek set for €20m move
Bayer Leverkusen are hurtling towards their first major signing of the summer transfer window, according to reports in Germany. Broadcaster Sport1 reported on Wednesday morning that the BayArena side had agreed a €22 million move to sign Sparta Prague forward Adam Hlozek when the transfer window opens. The forward will apparently sign a five-year deal with the Bundesliga side.

Hlozek has been nothing short of remarkable in the Fortuna Liga this season, bagging eight goals and 13 assists in just 29 league games. Across all competitions that personal record improves to 12 goals and 15 assists in 47 games, with the 19-year-old talent currently valued at €19 million. The Czech Republic international was heavily linked with a move to West Ham for much of last season but it now seems as though the player will instead favour a move to Leverkusen to test his talents in the German top flight. But will the arrival of Hlozek mean the Bundesliga side are planning on selling some of their other forwards?
Does Hlozek’s arrival spell the end for Schick at Leverkusen?
Fans across European football will be watching the signing of Hlozek to Leverkusen with some interest, wondering if the German side may now look to move on a number of their current strikers to make space for the young star. And that certainly seems to be the case if we look at the club’s current squad. Ahead of next season, Leverkusen have no less than four centre forwards in Joel Pohjanpalo, Lucas Alario, Sardar Azmoun and Patrik Schick. However, while fans of clubs such as Bayern Munich or Arsenal may be hoping to see the latter be sold in the coming months, it’s far more likely that Alario will depart alongside Pohjanpalo.

Indeed, Schick has been touted as a potential Robert Lewandowski replacement at Bayern or as an ideal signing for a number of English clubs, but with a contract until 2025 and a market value just under €40m, Leverkusen are in no real rush to sell their star striker. And if Alario and Pohjanpalo do make way, that should offer plenty of space and time for Hlozek to settle in alongside Schick, before his compatriot perhaps makes a move next year.
