Barcelona, Man Utd or Chelsea – Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern but where will he go?

The striker could leave this summer

All good things must eventually come to an end and in the German state of Bavaria that seems to be true of one of the Bundesliga’s most successful partnerships between a club and a single player. Robert Lewandowski, who has won eight league titles and the Champions League with Bayern Munich, now wishes to begin the next chapter of his career.

According to German newspaper Bild, the Poland international will play his 374th game for Bayern this weekend against Wolfsburg and it may well be his last for the German giants ahead of a busy summer transfer window. Lewandowski has a contract with the club that is set to expire in 2023, but according to the publication the striker has now informed the club that he won’t be signing an extension.

Remarkably, Bayern have yet to begin contract negotiations with the towering talent, according to Bild, which has annoyed the striker to no end and following a rather public pursuit of Manchester City’s latest signing, Erling Haaland, Lewandowski has decided to draw a line under contract talks before they had even begun. As such, Bayern will likely have to sell the player this summer if they hope to recoup any money for him.

Lewandowski wants to leave – but where will he go?

At the moment, all roads for Lewandowski seem to lead to the Camp Nou in Barcelona, where the Spanish giants remain the No.1 club being linked with a move for the striker this summer. According to Kicker, the Catalan giants have offered the Bayern striker a three-year deal and should the German side accept defeat and put the player up for sale, Barca would reportedly be willing to consider a bid similar to the player’s current market value of £45 million.

However, such transfer sagas rarely work out as easily as initially reported in the newspapers and if Lewandowski were to become available this summer then a number of other clubs would surely be interested as well. Alongside Barca, the player has also been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, while Chelsea have also been an outside bet for some time now if they decide to part ways with misfiring striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

Either way, there will surely be no lack of potential buyers if Lewandowski has confirmed his intentions to leave Bayern this summer. The only question that would remain after that is whether the club would ask him to see out his contract until 2023 or instead to cash in on their star striker while they still can.
