Liverpool have confirmed that Jurgen Klopp has signed a new contract with the Premier League side that will keep him at Anfield until 2026.

The German manager and his coaching staff were on deals which expired in 2024 and Klopp had previously suggested that he would consider leaving the club at that point.

However, rumours in England began to pick up speed this week when Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, was spotted at Anfield to watch Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals.

As such, numerous reports stated that Klopp and the club had come to an agreement over a contract extension, which was later confirmed by the English side on Thursday.

‘We feel we are absolutely right for each other’

In a statement on the club website, Klopp confirmed his commitment to the Reds and his determination to continue winning trophies at Anfield.

“There are so many words I could use to describe how I am feeling about this news… delighted, humbled, blessed, privileged and excited would be a start,” said Klopp.

“There is just so much to love about this place. I knew that before I came here, I got to know it even better after I arrived and now I know it more than ever before.

“Like any healthy relationship, it always has to be a two-way street; you have to be right for each other. The feeling we were absolutely right for each other is what brought me here in the first place and it’s why I’ve extended previously.

“This one is different because of the length of time we have been together. I had to ask myself the question: Is it right for Liverpool that I stay longer?

“Along with my two assistant managers, Pep Lijnders and Pete Krawietz, we came to the conclusion it was a ‘Yes!’”

How good has Klopp been at Liverpool?

Since taking over as manager in 2015, Klopp and Liverpool have gone from strength to strength in English and European football. The German manager has won five trophies in seven years at the club, including the 2019/20 Premier League and the Champions League in 2019.

As well as that, the club also remain in each of their four competitions this season and could end up reaching a third Champions League final in four years, as well as securing a historic quadruple.

However, Klopp isn’t just good at winning knock-out competitions or swooping in for silverware at the right time. When we look at his managerial record at Liverpool, they also show just how consistent his teams have been over the course of the past seven years.

Klopp’s overall points per game average at Anfield stands at 2.08 in all competitions, which is far better than his predecessor, Brendan Rodgers, who only averaged 1.77 points per game. Klopp’s average in the Premier League (2.15 points per game) is also much better than Rodgers’ 1.8 at the club, as well as the three managers that came before the Northern Irish manager.
