Until 2023
Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire have exercised the contract option on goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. Slonina was originally signed until the end of the 2022 season with an option for one additional year. Last season, the 17-year-old was the youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to start a game and record a clean sheet in his club’s 0-0 draw against New York City FC.
Slonina has since become the number one goalkeeper for the Fire and has recorded five clean sheets in seven starts this season. Slonina is also considered one of the most talented goalkeepers in the world. Linked with a potential transfer to Chelsea and Juventus, Slonina saw his market value increase to $3.3 million in the latest Transfermarkt MLS market value update—the highest market value for a U17 goalkeeper in the world and one of the biggest winners of the update.
