Bayern turn to RB Leipzig star and could recieve record fee for Lewandowski

Bayern target Leipzig star

Bayern Munich could receive a record transfer fee for Robert Lewandowski  if the club are forced into selling the player this summer, according to Kicker

Although Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn previously stated that the club were “not crazy” enough to let a striker of Lewandowski’s caliber leave the club, it may now be far more likely than previously thought.

According to Kicker, the Bavarian giants are unwilling to offer Lewandowski a two-year extension beyond his contract’s current expiry date in 2023. Nor will the club budget on a potential pay rise either. Late last week head coach  Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that the club were “a bit financially hampered by the pandemic”.

As such, the striker could be on his way to  Barcelona , who would need to pay a transfer fee in the region of €40 million, which would match the record transfer fee Bayern received for  Douglas Costa when he joined  Juventus in 2018.

Bayern turn to RB Leipzig star to plug midfield hole

Whether or not Lewandowski does sign a new contract, Bayern seem intent on having a busy transfer window with a number of players linked with a move to the Allianz Arena this summer.

According to De Telegraaf, Bayern have increased their offer from €15m to €17m for Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, having already reportedly agreed terms to sign his team mate and full-back Noussair Mazraoui.

If Bayern can’t conclude negotiations with Ajax over Gravenberch’s signature, the German champions may turn their attention towards RB Leipzig Konrad Laimer, according to Kicker.

Like Gravenberch, Laimer’s current contract expires in 2023 and already has a keen admirer in former head coach Nagelsmann, who once described the midfielder as a “monster ball conquering machine”.

Gnabry and Sabitzer set for Bayern exit

Laimer or Gravenberch would likely join the club as direct replacements for Corentin Tolisso, who is expected to depart this summer when his contract expires. As such, Nagelsmann has reportedly demanded a new No.6 to join the club ahead of next season.

However, the France international is unlikely to be the only departure. Marcel Sabitzer could be sold “at a reasonably tolerable loss” just one year after joining the club for €15m, according to Kicker.

The publication also claims that  Serge Gnabry’s contract negotiations continue to hit stumbling blocks, due to the player demanding a pay rise. Such a request could reportedly lead to the club walking away from such a deal, due to the Germany international’s inconsistent performances for the first team this season, which may also see the winger be sold this summer too.
