Complete update JPL
Charles De Ketelaere of Club Brugge is once again one of the big winners of the market value update in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and further extends his lead at the top – also due to a devaluation of teammate Noa Lang and KRC Genk’s Paul Onuachu. Unlike most other European leagues, all players have been re-evaluated in the latest update, as for some clubs the season has already ended since last weekend and only nine out of 18 clubs are still participating in the playoffs.
21-year-old De Ketelaere’s new market value of €30 million (+€3 million) sets a new record in the league – no other player has been valued that high in the past. “His profile as a tall attacker with strong technical skills is in demand at many top clubs. Should he leave Brugge, his transfer fee could be even higher than his current market value,” Transfermarkt’s Belgian Area Manager, Bart Tamsyn, explained.
De Ketelaere & Co. – The most valuable players in the Jupiler Pro League
On the other hand, as mentioned at the beginning of this article, Netherlands international Lang is on the decline. After months without a goal and a loss of his regular spot, he seems to have regained his old strength only in the last few weeks. His market value has dropped from €25 million to €22 million. The 22-year-old, who is expected to leave Brugge in the summer, has been outpaced by the two new winter arrivals Tajon Buchanan and Andreas Skov Olsen. While Canada international Buchanan receives a plus of €1 million and is now worth €9.5 million, for Skov Olsen it goes up by €3.5 million. The 22-year-old Dane, who arrived from Bologna, already has 12 goal contributions in 11 competitive games since his transfer.
JPL market values: Plus for Undav – Mignolet & Hendry downgraded
Winter signing number three, Denis Odoi, also receives a slight increase despite his 33 years of age and is now valued at €700,000. On the other hand, Simon Mignolet (-3 to €3.5 million), Jack Hendry (-1 to €5 million) and captain Ruud Vormer (-0.7 to €1.8 million), who is no longer a starter, are among the players who have been downgraded. In total, Brugge lose €3.7 million in market value, which, in addition to the aforementioned players, is mainly due to devaluations of Faitout Maouassa (-2 to €3 million) and José Izquierdo (-1 to €1.5 million), who go down due to a lack of playing time.
At newly-promoted surprise team Royale Union Saint Gilloise, who go into the playoffs as league leaders despite a slight dip in form in recent weeks, things are going well for top scorer Deniz Undav in particular. The 25-year-old, who will be chasing goals for Brighton in the future, is up by €3 million and now worth €8 million. However, he is not the only Union player with a plus. Key performers such as Casper Nielsen (+2 to €4.5 million), new international Siebe Van Der Heyden (+2 to €3 million) and Loïc Lapoussin (+1 to €2.8 million) also made significant jumps.
Also among the winners of the update are players of RSC Anderlecht and KAA Gent. Yari Verschaeren (+2 to €13 million), Bayern loanee Joshua Zirkzee (+3 to €11 million), Sergio Gómez (+1 to €10 million) and Josh Cullen (+1.5 to €5 million) earned their upgrades thanks to good performances in recent weeks and months and played their part in Anderlecht reaching the championship playoffs.
Gent striker Tissoudali on the up – Downgrades for Royal Antwerp & Co.
Although Gent narrowly missed out, the team has been in very strong form lately and had the second-best defence in the regular season behind league leaders Union. The biggest winner for the Buffalos, however, is attacking player Tarik Tissoudali. “The Morocco international is having the season of his life, scoring 19 goals in 29 matches in the league. Considering that he could be accused of poor finishing a few months ago, this development is remarkable,” Area Manager Tamsyn said. The result is an increase of €3 million to now €7.5 million for Tissoudali.
Tielemans, Wesley & Co – The Jupiler Pro League’s record departures
On the other hand, Royal Antwerp (-€3 million), KRC Genk (-€10.3 million) and Standard Liège (-€7 million) all suffered losses in terms of squad value. Antwerp reached the Champions playoffs, but have hardly been convincing in recent weeks, and many of their regulars are long out of their youngster years. On the other hand, the season was disappointing for Genk, who just managed to make it into the playoffs for a possible international spot with top scorer Onuachu (-3 to €17 million) still in third place overall, and Liège, where the season ended in a sobering 14th place.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
