In a statement made by a London-based communication firm the Ricketts family announced that they lead an investment group that wants to make an offer ahead of Friday’s deadline. With a squad value of €833 million, the current Champions League winners have the fourth most valuable squad on the planet.

“As long-time operators of an iconic professional sports team, the Ricketts family and their partners understand the importance of investing for success on the pitch, while respecting the traditions of the club, the fans, and the community,” the statement said (quoted by BBC). Further details will be shared in due course the statement added.

The BBC reported that US hedge fund investor Ken Griffin is also part of the investor group. The offer is considered significant. But there is competition. More than 20 parties have voiced serious interest in buying the Premier League club. Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss has been public about his intentions of potentially buying the club.

Chelsea are for sale as the current owner, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, is sanctioned by the British government after the Russian Federation invaded neighboring Ukraine. The club is not allowed to buy players, sell them or negotiate contracts. Potential parties interested in the club have until Friday to make a serious offer to buy the club.
