Succeeds Bielsa
Just over two months after leaving RB Leipzig, Jesse Marsch has found a new home. On Monday, the 48-year-old was officially named Marcelo Bielsa’s successor at Leeds United. Marsch has signed a contract until 2025 at the club currently fighting relegation from the Premier League. Leeds fired Bielsa on Sunday and then moved quickly to appoint the American head coach.
“We are delighted to welcome Jesse to the club and excited for him to lead us into this new chapter,” Leeds United director of football Victor Orta said in a club statement. “Jesse is someone we identified a number of years ago during his time at Red Bull Salzburg and we believe his philosophy and style of football aligns with that of the club and will suit the players very well.”
Although his time in Leipzig was a disappointment—Marsch averaged just 1.25 points per game—the American head coach has had success in the past. Before joining Leipzig, Marsch guided Red Bull Salzburg to two Austrian doubles and to the UEFA Champions League group stage. Marsch was also in charge of 151 games for Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls winning the Supporters’ Shield in 2015 and collecting 1.71 points per game.

Leeds United appoint Marsch – “Long-term plan”
Leeds United have struggled this season under Bielsa and are currently just two points above the relegation dropzone. Nonetheless, the club is optimistic that Marsch can be a long-term solution for the club. “We have a long-term plan and firmly believe he can take Leeds United to the next level and are excited for what the future holds,” Orta said.
