Major League Soccer side New England Revolution have received a club record fee for goalkeeper Matt Turner. The Revolution confirmed on Friday that they have sold Turner to Premier League side Arsenal in a deal that will be completed in the upcoming summer. Sam Stejskal from The Athletic reported a base fee of just under $7 million, plus add-ons of an additional $2 million and further incentives.

That fee would put Turner just behind his US men’s national goalkeeper Zack Steffen as the second most expensive goalkeeper ever sold by an MLS club. Steffen joined Manchester City from the Columbus Crew in a deal worth $7.5 million in the summer of 2019 and then was immediately loaned to Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf before rejoining City after his loan expired.

For New England, in the meantime, the initial deal will equal the fee that the club received for winger Tajon Buchanan from Club Brugge in January. Either way, Turner will become the most expensive outgoing goalkeeper in club history (overview).
