Newcastle sign Dan Burn Brighton – €100m mark cracked

“Fits the profile”

Newcastle have made another defensive addition shortly before the end of the transfer window. The Magpies announced the signing of centre-back Dan Burn. The 29-year-old arrives from Brighton and receives a contract running until 2024. According to reports, both clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of around €15 million.

Newcastle’s transfer spending rises to over €100 million with the additions of Chris Wood, Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimarães, fellow Deadline Day signing Matt Targett and Burn – no club spent more in the winter. The relegation-threatened club is 80% owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. Burn’s market value amounts to €3.5 million – only about a quarter of the rumoured transfer fee. The veteran made 83 appearances in the Premier League for Brighton and Fulham so far.
