With loan back
Premier League side Arsenal have signed Auston Trusty from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids. The Rapids announced the deal on Monday’s deadline day. Trusty, however, will remain in MLS for the time being as Arsenal have loaned the defender back to the Rapids until Jul. 17, 2022. A fee was not announced but both clubs are owned by American billionaire Stan Kroenke.
“Auston is coming off an exceptional season in 2021 in which he played a vital role in helping us finish atop the Western Conference for the first time in our history,” Colorado Rapids general manager Pádraig Smith said in a club statement. “We remain committed to bringing through the top young players from Colorado and across the United States and to providing them with a platform to flourish, achieve success in MLS and earn the chance to make a move to Europe.”
The Colorado Rapids acquired Trusty from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for $750,000 in allocation money in 2019. As part of the deal, the Union will receive 25% of any transfer profit if Trusty is sold to a club outside MLS. Trusty has managed 42 games across all competitions for the Rapids (no goals).
