Reunion with Gerrard
Head coach Steven Gerrard recently brought Philippe Coutinho, one of his former Liverpool teammates, from FC Barcelona to Aston Villa – and the next top-class player could follow in the summer. According to Spanish sports journalist Gerard Romero, who maintains good relations with Barça, Luis Suárez is considering a Premier League return.
The centre-forward, whose contract with Atlético expires in the summer, has reportedly turned down offers from Brazilian clubs Palmeiras, Corinthians and Atlético Mineiro to join Gerrard in Birmingham.

After eight years in Spain, Suárez could return to England, where he was on the pitch with Gerrard 95 times between 2011 and 2014. He played the most games for FC Barcelona before his inglorious departure in the summer of 2020 – in 283 matches, the Uruguayan was directly involved in 308 goals. In addition to offers from Brazil, Suárez, who has been officially allowed to negotiate with interested clubs since January 1, is also said to have turned down the chance to move to Saudi Arabia.
In the Villans’ attack Suárez would meet Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, who were bought for a total of €64 million in 2020 and 2021. The veteran generated fees of €123.5 million with his previous five transfers – the move next summer would be the first free transfer of his professional career, which started at Club Nacional in 2005.
