Los Angeles FC have announced the signing of Steven Cherundolo as their new head coach. Cherundolo was most recently coach of LAFC’s USL affiliate Las Vegas Lights.
“We believe Steve is the right coach for LAFC at this important time in our history,” LAFC owner Larry Berg said in a club statement. “We have always had high expectations for our Club both on and off the field, and I know our incredible fans do as well.”
“I am honored to be named the head coach of LAFC,” Cherundolo said. “Having been a part of the Club for the past year, I was able to see firsthand that the fans, city, and organization are all very special. The foundation is strong, and I am committed to guiding us to success on and off the field. I can’t wait to get started.”
Cherundolo began his coaching career in the youth ranks of his former club Hannover 96. After his time with Hannover, he worked as an assistant coach at VfB Stuttgart and with the Under-15 German national team. Cherundolo ultimately became coach of Las Vegas Lights FC in March 2020. In 32 games in charge he averaged 0.66 points per game.
