Update Primera División

Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Uruguayan Primera División and Agustín Álvarez from CA Peñarol is among the biggest winners. The 20-year-old forward has been directly involved in 28 goals for his club this season and is being scouted by several European top clubs including Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan. The forward increased his market value by €500,000 to €5 million.

Álvarez remains in third place among the most valuable players behind 19-year-old Matíaz Arezo (€7m) from Atletico River Plate and his 21-year-old teammate and Orlando City target Facundo Torres (€6m). Both were able to confirm their market values. Furthermore, the difference to fourth-placed Brian Ocampo has been increased. The 22-year-old right-winger from Club Nacional is the biggest loser of the update as he drops from €4 million to now €3 million.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
