Update 1. HNL

Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 303 players of the Croatian 1. HNL (first division). The update resulted in a change at the very top of the market value ranking. Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livaković saw his market value drop by €5 million to €10 million, which means he has lost first place in the ranking. First in the ranking is now his teammate Luka Ivanusec, his market value remains steady at €13.5 million.

The record champions from the capital are in possession of the five most valuable players in the league, but—except for Ivanusec—they all have seen their market value drop in the update. Livaković aside, Mislav Orsić (-€1m), Bruno Petković (-€3m) and Arijan Ademi (-€1m) also have seen their market value drop. The biggest winners of this update are Dinamo’s Josip Sutalo; his market value rises by €750,000 to now €3.5 million making him one of the ten most valuable Croatian U21 players.

While several players at league leaders Dinamo have lost in market value, the situation is different at NK Osijek and HNK Rijeka. The two clubs are even on points with Dinamo, who have played one game less. Several players of both teams see their market value improve, including Josip Drmić. The 29-year-old is currently on loan from Norwich City at Rijeka, and the former Swiss national team player has scored 14 goals in 17 games for his club. His market value improves from €1.5 million to €2.5 million.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
