Complete update Superligaen
Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Danish Superligaen, making major changes to FC Midtjylland in particular. The league leaders have recorded both the biggest upgrade and the biggest downgrade. In terms of squad value, it goes down from €47 million to €44.8 million. Only bottom club Vejle BK (-€2.42 million to €10.65 million) have suffered an even bigger drop.
The reason for the negative market value development despite the success is primarily the trio of Jens Cajuste, Marrony and Pione Sisto, who together lost no less than €4.5 million. Cajuste, who was one of the big winners in the preseason and received the league’s top value of €7 million in the interim update in October, has to say goodbye to the first place. After injury problems at the start of the season, the 22-year-old Swede is still not really getting into his stride and has fallen back to third place with a drop from of €2 million to €5 million.

Teammate Marrony, for whom Midtjylland paid €4.5 million to Atlético Minieiro in the summer, has yet to really find his rhythm in Denmark. After six months, he has only made ten short appearances and two assists, so a devaluation of €1.5 million to €2.5 million is a logical consequence. Sisto, on the other hand, is a regular, but since his return from Celta Vigo in the summer of 2020 he has not been able to match his previous level and has dropped by €1 million to €3.5 million – the value he had when he left in 2016.
The fact that it does not go down even further for the league leaders is mainly due to Raphael Onyedika, the biggest winner of the season so far. The 20-year-old Nigerian has earned himself a regular place after his loan to FC Fredericia this year, doubling his value from €1.5 million to €3 million.
Also going up by €1.5 million is William Böving, the 18-year-old attacking talent of FC Copenhagen. In his first full professional season, the right-footed youngster registered five goals and two assists in 23 appearances and made his debut for the U21 national team in September. Together with Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson (18; -€0.5 million to €4 million), Victor Kristiansen (19; +€1 million to €4 million) and Roony Bardghji (16), Böving forms a quartet of talents at Copenhagen, who are looking to win the championship again after two years without a title. Bardghji, who is said to be on the radar of Chelsea, among others, will receive his first market value of €1 million, making him just one of ten players born in 2005 worldwide who can boast a seven-figure value.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
